India–the land of people representing different languages, religions and ethnic groups, tales and mysteries–has a colossal cultural heritage, including many traditional dances. Originating in Southern India, from the state of Andhra Pradesh, Kuchipudi is one of the eight classical Indian dance forms. The word Kuchipudi is derived from the village Kuchelapuram, where Kuchipudi first originated as a dance drama tradition– this dance fuses religious Hindu poetry with rhythmic movements, music and song, bringing mythological tales to life. The Sarvam Foundation promotes the uniqueness of Indian arts as a tool towards the development of girls from two of New Delhi’s poorer neighbourhoods.
