Koinonia is a lay organization promoting integral human development and community life. It fosters a culture of peace and solidarity. It gives preference to the ‘little ones’ in difficult circumstances, the marginalized and the oppressed. Through its human development programmes, Koinonia embraces people of all backgrounds, finding richness in their diversity. It serves African children and youth in Kenya, Zambia and the Nuba Mountains area in Sudan. In Kenya, Koinonia operates programs that reach out to the child, the family network, and the local community. Apart from focusing on academic progress, the children and youth from different Koinonia Homes are involved in mentorship programs for the development of their talents. This is done to ensure that each child achieves the best possible results based on individual potentials. As a result, a number of them have become not only social workers, computer technicians but also accomplished actors, singers, acrobats, jugglers, mimes, dancers and drummers.
