In 15th century in Banie a custom of recreating scenes from the Passion was observed. The last performance was given there in 1498. The annual ritual was abandoned due to a curious coincidence: the actor playing the crucified Christ was in a quarrel with the actor playing the soldier Longinus - the latter, seizing the opportunity, speared his opponent’s heart and killed him. This unfortunate beginning of the village’s experience with theatre has a happier continuation today. The children from Teatr na patyku (Theatre on a stick) create performances, write scenarios, design sets and costumes. They talk about things important for them, about their dreams, plans and games. They use the language they speak every day and the stories they tell revolve around their young authors. The leader of the group is Violina Janiszewska.
