Youth Drama Ambassador Scheme, Hong Kong, CHINA

Urban Theatre from the Streets of Hong Kong. During Brave Kids 2012, the children from Hong Kong proved to be extremely caring and willingly took part in the workshops, teaching others new artistic skills.

The Hong Kong Youth drama Ambassador Scheme and children’s’ group tries through theatre to discover the energy and history of this city from pre-colonial times – for 156 years Hong Kong has in fact been losing its oriental uniqueness. Children are looking for their own life myths and identity. Using many symbols contained in these classic tales, they discover new meanings which are ‘Chinese’, so that people become aware of their own history. With Brave Kids, it gives young actors a chance to rediscover successive layers of their identity – showcasing to the world their roots, and the children become prouder of their culture. The group’s leader, Sim Fong Zoe Lai, admits that working with young people is for a gift, which allows her to return to the times of innocence, naivety and carefree life, to see in the children’s’ eyes the same enthusiasm and curiosity about the world.
