Hope4Street – at the beginning it was an independent concept of creative socialisation and art therapy carried out in a group of a few children from Warsaw Praga. Anna Schmidt, an educator and worker at the “Mały Książę” socio-therapy club, works with children from difficult and poor families. She runs classes, which aim at preventing repeated pathological behaviours observed in the backyards or homes of the children in care. Art, and especially creative work, gives a certain alternative – it is about creating an own personality, and it is supposed to be based not on trying to change somebody, but rather on waking up a need for a change in that person. Because of that, the children and youth get the conviction that they really are rightful participants of culture and they may have a specific dialogue with it: hip-hop, break dance and street art are for them a way of expressing their own convictions and thoughts. The group performs a lot – they take part in many charity events, street parties or youth music contests. At present, they are finishing work on their debut CD album.
