Between the Danube and the Olt River, surrounded by the mountains of the North, you will find a mysterious Romanian land called Oltenia, which is home to an artistic group of young female dancers – Act 4 Art. Their leader, Ruxandra Chelaru and six girls revive the forgotten rituals of the past, joining pagan traditions with acting and dance. Most of their choreographies are related to nature: dance named “Paparuda” calls for rain, and “Drăgaica” is a ritual related to summer solstice and the longest day of the year, when people pray for abundance and protection of harvest. Lilac and goldenrod flowers used for decorating dresses of the young artists refer to folk uniforms in a picturesque way. Performances of Act 4 Art. emanate with exceptional aura: this old fashioned joy of life is most felt in the performance titled “Sucitoarele din Feleacu”. It is a pair dance, where girls and boys tap a rhythm with small branches, celebrating life and happiness in line with their culture.
