Until 1944 Meskhetian Turks inhabited the historical Georgian region - Meskhetia. On Stalin's orders, within two days the whole community was deported to central Asia. In 2008 the Georgian Parliament approved a repatriation plan. The number of those who have already come back amounts to 2000 adults and children, of whom most do not speak Georgian. There have been ethnic clashes between Meskhetian Turks (Georgian Muslims) and the Georgian who practice Christianity. The Tolerant Association in Achalciche and Ianeti village runs a cycle of initiatives aiming at integrating minorities in Georgia. Pasebi is a traditional Georgian dance group that has discovered vocal talents amongst its members.
