Bharatanatyam is an ancient traditional art form with its origins rooted in divinity. The performers, accompanied by musicians, bring the audience to their own mystical world. They tell stories of gods and goddesses from Indian mythology, and folk tales with deep morals. The Sarvam foundation runs a free outreach program with weekly classes in Bharatanatyam to underprivileged girls from two of New Delhi’s poorer neighborhoods. Usually undervalued in a strongly patriarchal society, these girls have gained the pride of their families and communities as performers of Indian traditions.
